The AKG D 870 combines all the essential features required in a live sound vocal microphone. It is built in Vienna, Austria and you can feel its European quality just by picking up the microphone. This AKG mic is painted in a velvety soft-touch paint that is comfortable and secure to hold. The chassis and grille are finished in matte black that doesn't detract from the singer or performer. The D 870's capsule uses AKG's patented Varimotion design featuring a diaphragm of varying thickness that allows precise response shaping for high performance and extreme consistency. The sound quality is very smooth with a well-chosen presence peak that brings voices forward in the mix and increases intelligibility. The capsule's neodymium magnet delivers noticeably higher output than a standard dynamic microphone, so less gain is needed, improving dynamic range and lowering noise.
